Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is Niantics new project
Pokemon GO came about last year and pretty much revolutionized the mobile gaming market. The game put fans of Pokemon outside, catching some of their favourite creatures from the famed anime including Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charmander.
While the game itself has slowed down a bit since its launch, Niantic has continued to keep up with events and much-needed updates for the game. Pokemon GO’s model came from their geo-location battle-game Ingress and the idea pit players against each other as they took control of certain geo-locations. Pokemon GO was somewhat similar, in that you battled for gyms, but you also had the added benefit of filling up your Pokedex along the way.
Niantics next project is Harry Potter: Wizard’s Unite. There’s not much information on it yet, but Niantic offers a little hint on their website.
“Harry Potter: Wizards Unite uses state-of-the-art augmented reality technology to reveal the magic all around us. Explore real-world neighbourhoods and cities to discover mysterious artifacts, learn to cast spells, and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters along the way!”
What we can assume is that, like the different factions in Pokemon GO, players will be able to choose which House they’re a part of. That means that 90% of the player base will be Gryffindor. The choice for Harry Potter stems from a 20-year rich story of mystical adventure which will translate into an incredible, real-life, augmented reality which will once again get people around the world off their feet and running around seeking adventure.
